I’m originally from Augsburg, currently based in Stuttgart, Germany. Right now I’m a graphic design major, still my work focusses on photography, first and foremost self portraits. Because I am a young female artist in her 20s living in the 21st century I am aware of certain inequalities when it comes to gender and race, which are important guidelines in my personal as well as in my professional life. Also, I am influenced by certain injustices of capitalism, which is getting a bigger problem in Germany. Stuttgart is a wealthy city, you can feel the difference between poor and rich at a harassingly krass level which makes it very difficult for art students like me to keep up, in financial and social ways. I am trying to figure out a way of coping with theses surroundings in my work, my self portraits, also as a way to get to know myself better. Many people think of self portraits as a narcissistic reflection and the need of confirmation. But sometimes it’s just the fear of disappearing in an anonymous globalised world that stirs the need to connect.
